Much to my apprehension, i get coerced into participating in the inaugural San Jose Rock N' Roll Half Marathon with Isabela, Alp, Elizabeth and Lorena, ...but on a beautiful sunny sunday filled with blue skies, high spirits and cheery company, (and the fact that the national mariachi band convention was in town that very same weekend), how could i say no?

Pittsburgh, PA, July 9th, 2006 - a dreary day for the French, and a memorable one for the Italians - both being blue jersey toting European soccer power houses, but the Italians were the ones that get to come out on top, and hold the world cup title for the fourth time in their history that afternoon. ...what was i doing in Pittsburgh at the time? Who knows... Here are a couple snapshots of a late afternoon jog through the streets of Pittsburgh - what do you think is missing in these photos? The answer - people! Where did they all go? hmmm... what a mystery...

Highlights: a long ascent in both directions (is that possible?); sub 20 degree F night time temperatures; ...and not a soul in sight during the whole weekend (except one lone backpacker late sunday afternoon)...

cliché literature claims it's supposed to be about the journey, and not the destination. yet, we're almost always homeward bound at the end of a journey. i hope in this case life itself is the bigger journey and that this particular adventure turns out to be a destination revisited. photos and memories can do it on one level - but to engage all the senses, spirits and emotions down below the canyon - that's an entirely different level. looking forward to next time! - ajws
